and constructive comments and then when I was leaving he said , “ Hey , if you ever record that song , send it to me and I will add some guitar parts for you ”. That made my bucketlist right there ! So here is the brave part . It had been over two years , but I reached out to Phil the day before Easter and gave him every way possible to bow out from that offer he gave ne , but he said , “ Send me the song ”.
Oh-oh , here we go . I sent him the song that day and the very next day – Easter day – Phil sent me back the song . He was kind , but in no uncertain terms told me that my guitar part wandered around the click track … sometimes speeding up and sometimes slowing down . Ouch ! The faithful wounds of a friend ! He also teased me that he spent more time engineering this song than actually playing on it . He cut out a few moments here and there to “ fix it ” as far as timing goes . He liked Mark ’ s percussion part and most of my rhythm guitar part stayed in the song but the parts that Phil added took my simple / humble tune to a whole other level . His guitars parts were golden , and I have to tell you I still listen in amazement each time I play it . I can ’ t thank Phil enough for his gift of engineering and playing on this song . The reason I named it “ Joy ( Wedding Song )” was because not only is Phil one of Judy and I ’ s favorite people , let alone musician on earth , but Phil was generous enough to play our wedding 20 years ago in Tacoma , WA .

To have Phil play on this song , well … it just made sense to call it “ Joy ( Wedding Song )” to complete the circle . You can listen to it here .
