entrusted to us . The Master calls us to produce a good return on His investment in us . So we work to bring our A-game consistently .
HAVING FUN Life isn ’ t all fun and games , but a healthy team laughs a lot . The outside observer can see that they are having fun . Nobody wants to join a lame scene , a stiff group , or a nervous bunch . Many of us are introverts , but we love having a good time .
ALL-IN We show up early and stay late . Tech is often a thankless job , but that ’ s now why we do it . We know we are an essential part of the worship ministry , and so nobody cares more about how things sound and look than we do . We ’ re never asleep at the wheel or “ set it and forget it .” No way ! We are the best listeners in the room !
AVAILABLE My recently-relocated-to-heaven friend Godofredo Gonzales used to teach about the four ingredients to a great team member . They are Aptitud , Actitud , Disposición , y Disponibilidad . Or in English , Aptitude ( Skill / Competence ), Attitude , Preparation , and Availability . You must have all four , right ?
GREAT RELATIONSHIPS There ’ s no tension . We ’ re all on the same team , whether it ’ s the band , the pastors , or us . We communicate clearly , treat each other with respect , and humble ourselves when something goes haywire . We are one team . We are family .
Now , we ’ d all like to be part of teams like that , right ?! And I believe you are able to take steps toward that . I ’ m not just saying it . I really believe in you !
So after you ’ ve put the time and energy into developing that kind of team , when you ’ re looking for more techs , here ’ s an idea to try out .
I once sent this to select members of the worship team .
Here ’ s why I ’ m reaching out to you . We are a worship team . Some of us play instruments , some sing , and some operate the sound and video equipment . But we ’ re one worship team . I think you might be an excellent fit for the tech team . Do you resonate with any of these ?
IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR AN AUDIO TECH
• You love music
• You ’ ve ever said , “ Did you hear that drum part ?! It was amazing !”
• You ’ re annoyed when someone starts talking , and their mic isn ’ t on .
• You like things to be neat and tidy .
• You ’ re teachable and servant-hearted .
• You don ’ t mind getting places early .
• You love taking care of others .
Of course , you don ’ t need to hit all of these , but I ’ m saying this : it is much more vital that you love to serve and you love music than you have a clue how to operate a mixer . We ’ ll provide all the training you ’ ll need to serve with confidence .
As you begin talking with potential techs , take on the role of trainer , of discipler . We are a disciple-making people . You ’ ll need to train , develop , and disciple these people .
Here ’ s a final ProTip : Homeschool students are a great find ! They have greater flexibility in their schedule and can even get school credit for serving in tech ministry . And yes , I ’ m biased .
