songwriters need to combat fear.
[Tom] Love that - thanks for sharing that. And
good job on the research managing to find an
unreleased song in the corners of YouTube!
Ha! You’re right, this song was written in a
tough time. Two years ago, we recorded a
live album called All Things New here at KXC
in London. The producer, Jeremy Edwardson,
and his team flew from the U.S. to come and
produce the live album. Sadly, during the flight
over Jeremy’s assistant Andrew Jackson who
was just twenty-nine years old, had a cardiac
arrest and died here in the hospital in London
that day. Pete, myself and my wife Sarah were
there in the hospital room. There were so many
questions and so much shock. But as we
prayed and worshipped in that hospital room,
there was also an incredibly strong sense in
that hospital room that Andrew was actually
running into his Father’s arms in heaven and
receiving the ‘great well done good and faithful
servant’. It was a holy moment and it still gets
me everything time I think of it. I wrote this
song for me - as a way to try to process what
happened. Although I guess it’s the hope that
we all have as Christians. We have the hope
that we will meet our Father in heaven one
This is Not the End
day because “death is not the end, it’s where
it begins”. The Bible talks about death losing
its sting, and it’s so true, but it’s still so painful.
The fear of death which can overwhelm us in
life, can only really be undone by the hope of
life in Christ.
[WM] And now you have a wonderful new
release! Kingdom Dreamers is a fabulous new
EP chronicling worship from KXC. Tell us about
the story behind this project. How were you
able to record it all during a U.K. lockdown and
social distancing restrictions in place?
[Tom] Yes, absolutely. I’ve managed all the
KXC recordings to date which has been an
incredible and really collaborative experience
with other writers at our church. This project is
slightly different as I’ve written all of the songs.
This has been a really fun and cathartic project
and I was fortunate enough to work with Jeremy
again. We had it all booked in and I was going
to fly to Jeremy’s, and then this pandemic hit,
scuppering all my well laid out plans! But I had
a chat with Jeremy, and we decided it felt right
to move forward with the project anyways. We
decided to record the lead vocals here in the
studio in London and then send them over to
Jeremy and his team in the U.S. We had plans
to use the KXC Gospel Choir, but again, that
sadly wasn’t possible. So, for the extra vocals
we asked lots of the singers at KXC to record it
at home on either their home studio or even just
their iPhones! Surprisingly, the vocals actually
sounded amazing, so hopefully you can hear
lots of that on the recording too (you can see
them singing on the lyric video). I actually
couldn’t be prouder of this EP; the songs and
how it sounds. I love listening to it!
[WM] “Fighting Back”, from Kingdom
Dreamers, has been released as a single. It’s
a faith building anthem all churches should
employ right now. Can you tell us about this
song?
[Tom] Thanks, we love that song. It was a
