Once users discovered the power of the digital mixer, every manufacturer created their own special offering in the marketplace. Even a modest digital mixer offers
many multiples of the functionality in even the largest commercial studios in the analog era.
2013. PreSonus introduces the secondgeneration
StudioLive AI series.
2014. Allen & Heath launches the Qu live
digital mixer series.
2014. MIDAS introduces the M32, like
the Behringer X32 but with improved mic
preamps and 96/24 audio capability.
2015. Allen & Heath launches the 96/24
dLive series live consoles.
2015. Avid introduces the Venue SL6 live
console.
2017. Allen & Heath introduces the
96/24 SQ series mixers, which wins two
consecutive TEC Awards for small-format
digital mixer.
This is where everything gets too crazy to
keep going. The closer we get to modernday
technology, the more densely packed is
the list. This timeline is really about hardware;
however, if we consider software DAWs, plugins,
immersive audio, ATMOS, AR, VR, and
even technological integrations with biology,
the scope of increase and advancement in our
wild world of audio is mind-boggling! Are you
ready for what’s coming? I’ve been at this for a
while and I love this stuff! I’m ready if you are.
Let’s keep looking forward!
