came out in 2011. In today’ s market that kind of lifespan speaks to the integrity of the original design and implementation. My‘ OG’ TimeLine is still working like a champ, and the only reason it’ s going to gather some dust is because of all the great new features available on TimeLine MX …
NEW PROCESSOR Like the algorithms it contained, the original TimeLine had a great sound – clean and crisp, with the ability to‘ smear’ things when you needed to smooth the edges. Key to all of that sonic fluidity was a 266 MHz SHARC DSP processor. Like the BigSky MX, TimeLine MX also features a tri-core 800 MHz ARM processor, delivering even more pliability and sonic goodness!
TWO SIMULTANEOUS EFFECTS One of the biggest improvements from the original TimeLine is the addition of second, fully independent delay‘ engine’. This is a serious upgrade since you can have two unique delay algorithms at your feet, both of which are fully editable and can be routed in series, parallel, or split, with pan control for each delay.
TWELVE DELAY MACHINES ON TAP As you rotate the Delay Type Encoder on the top left of the device allows you to easily select your choice of twelve delay machines: dTape, dBucket. Digital, Drum, Oil Can, MultiTap, Spectral, Reverse, ICE, Lo Fi, Filter, and Reverb.
NEW ADDITIONS In addition to all the‘ old favorites’, TimeLine MX also includes some great new delay algorithms: Spectral, MultiTap, Oil Can, and Drum. And an extra round of applause for the addition of Reverb. If space is an issue, having a great sounding reverb‘ on board’ is a welcome addition!
MIDI If you use MIDI on your pedalboard, chances are you’ ll love the fact the MX gives you three options for MIDI i / o: traditional 5 pin DIN ports, 1 / 4” TRS, and USB C. This is a huge convenience when it comes to playing nice with other MIDI pedals and controllers.
GRANULAR PARAMETER EDITING One of the things I loved most in the original was the delay-specific parameters that made it easy to make each delay your own. TimeLine MX builds up on that with enhancements like dual parameter sets for tweaking the dTape Delay. In turn you can assign any parameter to the Parameter 1 and 2 knobs on the face of the unit for real time control.
DUCKING One of the key functions that made the TC Electronic 2290 iconic was the ducking feature. Most commonly players used this to make delays duck out of the way when parts were being playing and swell after. Duck and Swell have been added as global parameters for all the delays in TimeLine MX which is a giant win for crafting the perfect balance between your audio source and effects.
THE WRAP TimeLine MX was well worth the wait and has found a trusty spot in my rack, right next to my BigSky MX. Considering the quality of the sounds and the fact that it was designed and built right here in the US of A, this tone machine is well worth every penny!
