It has been five years since Cory Asbury |
released a full worship project, and his return |
with Outsing the Angels feels less like a |
comeback and more like a rediscovery of |
why he began making worship music in the |
first place. |
Best known for the massive worship anthem |
“ Reckless Love,” Asbury spent the past five |
years largely away from worship ministry, at |
one point pursuing a more country-influenced |
musical |
direction |
and |
even |
questioning |
whether he would make another worship |
record. Outsing the Angels finds him returning |
with a renewed sense of calling, wonder, |
and freedom. |
The 15-song album is built around the idea of worshiping God without reservation. Asbury describes the title track as a call to extravagant worship— the almost impossible idea that ordinary people might try to“ outsing” the heavenly beings created to worship God. The point, of course, isn’ t whether we actually can. It’ s whether we are willing to give God everything we have.
That spirit runs throughout the record. Songs including“ Only Ever,”“ Prodigal God,”“ All Saints,”“ Holy God,”“ Faith of a Child,” and“ My Closest Friend” move between big congregational declarations and deeply personal moments of surrender. There is plenty here for worship leaders looking for new songs for the Church, but the album also works simply as an invitation to rediscover the joy of worship.
Musically, Asbury sounds comfortable returning to the worship world while bringing some of the maturity and musical perspective gained during his time away. His voice remains immediately recognizable, but there is an added sense of gratitude behind these performances, as though he understands his calling differently now than he did five years ago.
That may ultimately be what makes Outsing the Angels so compelling. This isn’ t simply Cory Asbury releasing another worship album. It’ s an artist returning to something he wasn’ t certain he would ever do again.
Outsing the Angels is joyful, honest, passionate, and refreshingly unashamed about its purpose: worship God with everything you’ ve got and don’ t hold anything back.

David Leonard’ s new EP, Well Done, is a refreshing collection of songs centered on faithfulness, perseverance, and trusting God through every season of life. With his familiar rootsy sound, expressive vocals, and organic production, Leonard once again creates worship music that feels honest and lived-in rather than overly polished.
Originally from Arkansas and now based in the Franklin / Nashville area, Leonard grew up as a pastor’ s son and began leading worship as a teenager. He later toured with NEEDTOBREATHE before becoming one half of the GRAMMY-nominated duo All Sons & Daughters, where he helped write songs including“ Great Are You Lord” and“ All the Poor and Powerless.” Today, he continues to serve the Church primarily as an artist, songwriter, producer, and creative partner at The Tabernacle.
The six songs on Well Done carry a consistent message: keep showing up, keep trusting God, and remain faithful even when life doesn’ t unfold
