CAPO GUITAR
JESUS LIFTED ME FROM CAIN AND BROOKE LIGERTWOOD | Mitch Bohannon
This song has been saved on my Spotify“ Home” page for a few weeks now. I love the upbeat, toetapping drive and it’ s got enough of a country soul for my liking. It’ s been on my list to use for this article and, quite frankly, after watching several hours of the Charlie Kirk Memorial Service, I was so uplifted in my spirit that I felt this is the perfect song for today.
We all heard testimony after testimony of people who have been lifted out of sin to experience the forgiveness and love of God. Hearing and seeing the Name of Jesus spoken so boldly throughout the day brought many rounds of tears to my eyes today.
If you’ re looking for a song of thanksgiving for a congregation to shout together or even to sing around a Fall bonfire, this is a simple and powerful song to lead. If you have a congregation that struggles to engage and respond in worship, the bridge section,“ How could I not lift my hands?” could be the perfect challenge / encouragement for them to start getting comfortable expressing worship physically.

The song was recorded in“ Bb.” I tried dropping in 1 / 2-step increments until I got to the key of“ G” before I felt like I could lead the song effectively. If you can sing the original key, then use the same chart and place capos on 6 and 8. My capos are on 3 and 5 for the key of“ G” and I may even go lower!
Lots of palm muting will create the swing you need to get toes tapping … my go-to rhythm like that is( down-up-mute-down-mute) and then start it over. But be careful to not overdo it. If you play that rhythm all the way through, it loses its effect. I’ ll do that on the first three chords and then on the C # m7 to the B, I’ ll play straight quarter note, down-strums. That helps settle the song down and maintain tempo at the same time.
For the verses, I’ ll use more broken or partial chords … muting most and not fully strumming … more of a picking back and forth between the bass note and strings 3 and 4. This allows the verse lyrics to come through a bit more and can set up a drive back into the chorus. Please check out my video … you’ ll see I like to add this little stepping note at the 5th string. I find myself doing things like that without even thinking. Once you make the Short-Cut Capo part of your regular routine, you’ ll most probably find some“ go-to” licks that just feel right for the way that you lead and play.
