our generation . I wanted the people to be able to understand and get to know him in a deeper level . At the same time , I wanted Nigel to pour what he ’ s about and his world of worship guitar into them because his world of worship guitar is totally different than these Latin musicians in their churches . I like to give them a kind of perspective they ’ re probably never going to get anywhere else .
Roberto is one of the most influential guitar players of our generation as well . He comes at things from more of a Latin Fusion perspective – I like to cover all areas . Being a Christian guitar player doesn ’ t mean you just have to play a bunch of worship chords . You can get down and play lead and learn technical stuff too . Roberto covered all that . So we put together this kind of melting pot to see what happens .
[ Doug ] What are some of the unexpected things ?
[ Chris ] The first year we didn ’ t know what to expect , but we saw so many amazing things happen . Before we ’ d start off the evening worship , the campers would be outside the building with acoustic guitars singing worship songs . There was so much unity with these guys , forming strong bonds with each other and becoming friends , whether they live in the same country or not . It ’ s crazy . Every year we see this happen . You see existing relationships get stronger and we see all these people form new ones as well . It was this extra element that I was not expecting that was probably the most special of all .
[ Doug ] That connection between the campers was one of many things I loved about that camp . Can you talk about what some of the other guest instructors have brought to the table ?
[ Chris ] So the second year we had Stu G and
Jorge Fajardo . Jorge is one of our personal heroes and is part of a Spanish ministry called New Wine Worship , who are mega in the Spanish world and he ’ s just a total freak show of a guitar player . Andrés and I both remember the Delirious ? era and how much it impacted our lives . Having Stu come in playing his signature sound and some of those songs from Delirious ? was a nostalgic treat for us . We had him pour into the people and it ’ s crazy how they just fell in love with him right away . They fell in love with Nigel as well . I feel like it has been so cool having these guys in because they just connect with the people .
Every year has something unique , but year three obviously we had you Doug as well as Javier Serrano . I felt it was great having your kind of charisma as a guitar player as well everything you have when it comes to technique and cool guitar vibes . And of course , Javier covered the Latin bases . He ’ s a highly influential guitar
