of the amount of churches that are singing those songs . And when you ’ re in a really , really large room and singing those songs with a big group of people , it ’ s pretty amazing . Those songs are made for those big rooms . And there is something very moving about hearing a lot of people sing those songs .
I ’ m not certain of the stats , but the average church in America is probably about a hundred and the average church in Australia is about seventy . Rich and I grew up in those churches . You ’ ve got like one singer , one flute , one guitar or something like that . Those big room , big crowd songs are going to die in those small rooms with small congregations .

Even though some of their newer songs tend to stretch the ideal , congregational “ C to shining C ” vocal register , CityAlight has remained true to their desire to resource local churches who
may not feel fully served by the usual , bigchurch styled CCLI top 20 .
CityAlight have been invited ( yet again ) to the Getty ’ s “ Sing !” Conference in Nashville , September 1-3 , 2025 .

So , our motivation wasn ’ t that there ’ s a real problem in the in the ‘ worship industry ’. We thought , the churches are being really well served with those kinds of songs by those kinds of outfits . What we thought wasn ’ t being looked at as carefully were songs that worked in those churches where there ’ s 70 to 100 people being led by a smaller team of less accomplished amateurs .”
From my conversation with CityAlight songwriters Jonny and Rich , I learned just how lovingly , intentionally , and carefully they work to ensure their songs : 1 ) utilize infinitely singable , beautiful melodies , 2 ) are within the capabilities of average church instrumentalists to play and 3 ) frame Biblical , rich , poetic lyrics .
CityAlight has been releasing music in a ( reasonably ) steady stream since 2014 . Every release is carefully crafted as a resource for local churches - especially smaller churches who may have musician availability and production limitations . It all started with the “ Yours Alone ” album and continued through the six track EP “ Yet Not I ” in 2018 that includes the song “ Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me ”.
