the other members of the team were bringing as well .
Whether your team has a music director or not , you can try to think ahead when it comes to some of these ‘ little moments ’, even though they can often be notoriously hard to pin down . You probably won ’ t be able to figure out when each one will be , but you can know with confidence that they ’ ll come up at some point in most every worship service .
THE LITTLE MISTAKES
I ’ ll be honest , the band sounded incredible , but we weren ’ t perfect . While I put a ton of practice time in before the conference there were still times in the heat of the moment where I messed up a turnaround , forgot how many times we ’ d repeat the bridge , or missed bringing in that great piano part by just a beat .
The good news for me , and for you too , is that the little mistakes are truly just that : little . Because we ’ d all done our best to come prepared there were few , if any , moments where we were all lost at the same time . When the whole team comes prepared and one of you gets off track , there ’ s a freedom to not sweat it and know that your team members have you covered so you can get back on track .
As you read that paragraph , perhaps you felt a bit of discouragement if some people on your team don ’ t come as prepared as they could , or perhaps you felt a nudge of conviction that you could come more prepared to serve your team yourself .
Either way , there ’ s always opportunity for growth in honest conversations , authentic relationship , and a desire to serve .
THE BIG PICTURE
In the end , it was a blessing and encouragement to have the opportunity to sit in and lead worship with such talented people , but I know that ’ s not really the ‘ real world ’, where just putting together a full band where everyone has at least looked at the setlist before rehearsal is often considered a huge win .
Be encouraged , whether you ’ re satisfied or not with the current way your band comes together , that the little things done faithfully , with excellence , intention , and effort will demonstrate a return that grows and rubs off on the people around you over time . Thanks for serving your worship team well , you can do the little things !
