E , but all three of those guitarists are just really incredible . Their tone , their sensibility . And it just felt like the slide part was something that the song needed . It felt right .
[ WM ] There are moments in songs that the lyric magnifies the impact of the song . I remember an early Leeland song where he is singing about reaching his current generation and the line is , “ This is an emergency !”
[ Brooke ] Oh , I love that song . I believe it is from the Tears of the Saints album .
[ WM ] Right . And to me , “ What a Beautiful Name ” when you sing the lyric , “ You have no rival , you have no equal ” it just takes that moment and magnifies it … just blows it up . It ’ s like you threw a grenade in the song . But in the song “ Fear of God ”, it has five or six of those moments .
I love the part when you say , “ While we ’ re still here , we have work to do ”. I mean , that to me is crushing in a good way . What a call to action . And then , “ He ’ s coming for a pure and spotless blood-washed bride ”. What a line . And it ’ s just so powerful . Tell us about the actual lyric writing for this song ?
[ Brooke ] I think that last part you ’ re talking about , we did the song in the studio , the first runs of it . Then the next day I was driving back to the studio with just the board mix of what we ’ d done the day before . And that part was just an instrumental . As I was driving in the car and had the desk mix up way too loud , I was into it , and I just started singing that out . It just came out of my spirit , “ He ’ s coming with a trumpet sound . He ’ s coming with a flash of light . He ’ s coming for a pure …” It just came out all at once . And I just kept repeating that , skipping back , and repeating that instrumental and singing it out over that . And so that part actually came after we ’ ve recorded the music and then we put that in at the end .
And the “ work to do ” line to me , it almost hearkened back to a little bit of Keith Green . I love Keith Green , and you probably do too . But I think that the “ No Compromise ” book was so formative for me in my first couple of years of knowing Christ . And I listened to ( not consistently all the time through the year , but one or two times a year )… I ’ ll go back and listen to some Keith Green songs and some Rich Mullins songs . And they just have this power to wake me from my slumber , when I feel like I might be getting a little numb to things , or where it ’ s tempting to serve in a more sanitized way or say things in a more sanitized way . I ’ m so grateful for prophets like Keith Green and Rich Mullins … prophets and poets who have this ability to be able to write these words that can shake us out .
And I think for me , the fear of the Lord , one of the amazing things about it is you don ’ t get rid of it . I think fear of man is something that we all deal with , certainly something that
