CAPO GUITAR
“ THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU ’ VE DONE ” BY THE BAND TABLE | Mitch Bohannon
Last week I got to catch up with my friend , Jonathan Lee . He has been one of my favorite writers for several years . “ More and More of You ” must be my all-time favorite from Jonathan , but do you remember … “ Greater is He ”, “ As White as the Snow ”, or “ When the Stars Burn Down ?”
We were able to visit about his new work with People & Songs and his new band , The Band Table . ( I encourage you to look them up and consider booking them to come to your church !) One of their newest releases is the song , “ Thank You for What You ’ ve Done ” and I felt it was a great song to feature with the cut capo . It ’ s got a fantastic , dynamic range and is perfect for the open-tuning sound .
Getting started with finger picking to setup the verse and into the first chorus . Following that first chorus , the song builds into a big verse and even bigger chorus to really capture the lyric . I ’ ve been working on another article that I ’ ll hopefully finish soon that focuses on what I call the difference between playing the guitar and playing the song . Our guitar playing needs to communicate what we are singing in the lyrics both in style and passion .
There are some nice bass-walks through the chord progression both in the verse and the chorus . During those lighter , finger picking sections , that bass movement can be accentuated more . Check out the video for some ideas . This song is fantastic as recorded with a full band , but also would work well if your guitar is the only instrument .

The song is recorded in “ C #,” so to play with the recording , place your full capo on fret 4 and your cut capo on fret 6 . If you ’ re like me and that ’ s too high for you to sing , try dropping a step or step and a half , using the same chord chart . I played in the key of “ C ” for the video .
