the choir that assembles around these projects are the same as the 7 record team as well , and they are just people who “ get it ”. They ’ re brilliant singers , but they ’ re worshipers and you can hear that . And so , when we record choir , we make sure we get clean separate takes of sopranos , altos and tenors .
At first , we called them “ church takes ”, and then I changed the name of that . I was like , “ Guys , let ’ s do a ‘ church take ’, so you just sing whatever you would sing when you were singing this in church ”. But I found that people were still being too polite because also sometimes when we ’ re singing in church , we don ’ t want to be too crazy and distract the people around us .
So , I was like , “ Okay , okay , scrap that . We ’ re not calling them church takes . We ’ re going to call them ‘ car takes ’. I want you in this take to worship like you do in your car ”. And that ’ s what unlocked that freedom that you hear . That real , just absolutely going for it and going after the Lord . So that is just those two tracks and that second track , every chance I get was a tag that just flowed out of my own worship when I was worshiping with ‘ Bless God ”, the song just on the piano at my house . So then , yeah , that obviously wasn ’ t part of the original song . We made it kind of one long moment , but it ’ s two separate tracks . And I think it ’ s just the perfect kind of opening to the album , it feels just warm and invitational … we want to just say , “ Let ’ s go worship ”.
[ WM ] It starts out as a simple praise chorus , kind of like an old Maranatha song . Just a real simple thing , but then it just keeps building and building . It ’ s amazing .
