moments throughout my life where this song has been led and I ’ ve been in church and somebody ’ s singing it and every single time that that has happened , it ’ s sticky to me . Just something so just sticking to my soul . It ’ s so encouraging and it ’ s so just beautiful . It ’ s a beautiful song , beautiful melody . And again , I love songs about the blood of Jesus . I love the celebration and the power in that .
So when it came around , “ How Precious ” I knew I wanted it to be the last song on the album , and that idea kind of came up of , “ I ’ ve always loved this song .” We were in the studio preparing the album and I said , “ Why don ’ t we just try this ? I ’ m just going to start singing it . Let ’ s just throw some ... You just follow me .” The piano player , Evan , was credible in this record . And so , it was really this moment in the studio where we just ... the first time I had really ever led it , to be honest . But , like I said , it ’ s always been sticky with me . And so it really is this really fun , beautiful moment . It was very much inspired by the CeCe Winans version on the Gaither record . We basically did the same arrangement , just this little two-minute arrangement . That ’ s just all the room moment , choir and piano and organ . And so , yeah , I ’ m really excited and that ’ s the way that the record ends , which feels really special .
[ WM ] Wow . And as a side note , Andraé always wrote the chorus first when writing a song .
[ Cody ] I love that .
[ WM ] Always . And to my knowledge , Andraé is the first man and maybe only man to bring black music into the white church on a large scale .
Ain ’ t Nobody
[ Cody ] Oh . So powerful . And now I feel like we ’ re in a beautiful season of those worlds really coming together in such a strong way . And I ’ m so excited about it . It ’ s amazing .
[ WM ] Well , we had that back in the early Jesus movement because the hippies weren ’ t prejudiced so much . They didn ’ t have the racism baggage . And so , Andraé was always part of all the Jesus concerts . That was just a normal thing . And I was in the crowd many times before I ever played with him , and I always just marveled at the giftings that were on him .
[ Cody ] Wow . Yes . I love that so much .
[ WM ] What is your hope for God is Good ?
[ Cody ] I hope and pray that it ’ s a beacon of hope for people . I think it ’ s a record with a lot of moments of joy and just we ’ re smiling and laughing in a lot of the moments . It just carries

this really strong joy and this hope in it . And I feel like it ’ s so potent for the season that we ’ ve coming out of , that we ’ re still living in , the repercussions of this crazy , chaotic , and depressing season that we ’ ve been in . And so , to me , it kind of feels like the antithesis , the antidote for that . And its songs that are really , really structured around scripture and truth . I hope that it rallies the church around just the truths of God , the scripture of God , again , and what we all believe and agree on and those foundational truths . I think that ’ s so important in this season to really recover from what happened is because we ’ ve had a lot of opinions and we ’ ve had a lot of disagreements and all these things and what can we rally around ? The hope of Jesus . And I really pray that that ’ s what people experience in these moments .
[ WM ] Cody , many churches are dealing with scandals at the highest levels . This leaves congregants , church staff , and worship
