Church - would be reminded of the importance of warmly and unmistakably inviting every man , woman and child in our regular church congregations to sing worshipfully to God - not just the specialist singers on the platform with microphones .
Watching and listening to someone else sing is not enough . While listening , being inspired and moved as a soloist sings can be great … there ’ s something more that ’ s only possible when I sing , when you sing , and when we all sing together .
When we can again gather without restrictions , I hope we will have taken this opportunity to reboot our approach to music in our church gatherings - emphasizing the imperative of the “ voice ” of the people over the voice of the expert .
WHO SHOULD MAKE A VIRTUAL CHOIR SONG VIDEO ?
While the virtual choir videos that achieve the higher click numbers usually come from collections of churches across whole cities , states and nations , many are being made by a single church - even very small ones . The size of the choirs isn ’ t always large , ( admittedly ) the quality isn ’ t always high and the online audience is not large for every virtual choir . But that ’ s not always the point .
Large or small , polished or a little rough around the edges , each virtual choir video from the Christian Church shows a desire to sing together as an expression of worship to God . Even if doing so means working a little harder , being more creative and getting a good-sized dollop of tech assistance , that is a worthwhile thing to do .
Who should make a virtual choir song video ? Especially ( but not only ) if you and your church family are unable to gather and sing together physically … maybe you should .
As you may have read in some of my previous articles in [ WM ], it was my privilege to lead the production of “ The Blessing | Aotearoa / New Zealand ” - the virtual choir offering of my home country . Released August 20 , 2020 the response has been wonderful , overwhelmingly positive and beyond my expectations . I would count our Kiwi virtual choir project as being amongst the most challenging and rewarding musical projects of my whole life . In case you ’ ve missed it , click the thumbnail below to watch .
Now that we ’ ve covered the what , why and who , next month I plan to write about how .
