After spending 2019 with his family on a personal hiatus from writing , performing and recording , Bethel worship leader Cory Asbury marks his anticipated return with the ten-song studio release , To Love a Fool .
One thing that really makes this album special is how cliché free most of the songs are , while simultaneously demonstrating Asbury ’ s personal faith and the struggles he often faces in his personal relationship with God . " Dear God " is a perfect example of this idea as we get to hear a two-way conversation between the singer and God in verse one and then God ’ s loving response in verse two . The chorus represents how often we need to start over with God and that He finds us in the midst of our brokenness every time .
" Sparrows ” brings Luke 12:22-34 to life as Asbury uses the entire passage rather than offering a short piece of Jesus ' teaching as a seed thought for the song . Here , we get a deep and creative look into Jesus ’ sovereignty told in ways we can understand today .
I wouldn ’ t characterize every song on this gem of an album as congregationally friendly with about half of the songs bending more to the performance side of things . It is evident from these songs that Asbury ’ s writing has taken a decidedly deeper tone with regards to Biblical truth and theological significance . This is a rich offering of songs that were born deep in the heart of a man who spent a year finding himself and discovering the heart of the God who blessed him with incredible musical talent and a gift for writing that few in the genre can compare to . This album might not compare “ hit ” wise with Reckless Love but to be honest , this collection as a whole , blows that album out of the water and feels much more personal and fresh .

Sometimes it is difficult to fathom how big our God is and how much He is truly in love with His creation . I often acknowledge the greatness and awe of God in what I see around me but when it comes to realizing that He also lives within me , I sometimes shudder at the thought because I know how often I stray from Him to do my own thing but there He is , still loving and pursuing me . This is the central focus of Austin Texas based , Austin Stone ’ s latest release , With / In . Their eighth release is a gorgeous collection of twelve songs designed to focus the worshiper on the fact that God indeed wants to live in each of us while at the same time revealing His love and majesty all around us .
