with clean settings the N2.6’ s sounded very full, with pronounced high end and bass response. Covering multiple genres was a breeze and some of my favorite settings were positions 2,3 and 4 on the selector.
With distortion and overdrive added the standard position pickups were full, warm and balanced. Engaging the metal or crunch sounds with the tone control pulled up took these guitars to the next level. For solos or for modern Contemporary Christian music the POWR: D humbuckers cut through the mix with big, bold and fat sound. They had the sound and fullness of a drop D guitar without d-tuning your instrument. What surprised me was the clarity and note definition even in full overdrive with no artifacts or hum that you typically get from traditional passive humbuckers.
Strandberg continues to push the boundaries with refinements and updates to the Boden Original and Standard N2 line. When I started playing the guitars plugged in, I finally understood why these instruments are so popular and in demand. The ergonomic bodies, neck and fretboards fit you like a pair of well-worn jeans. Sonically the Strandberg guitars give you more options and versatility that many guitars that are one trick ponies. For Praise teams and Worship bands we need instruments that are more versatile, but also dependable since we share the stage with other musicians and singers and can’ t bring a boat load of guitars to church.
If you haven’ t played a Strandberg I suggest you test drive one of the Strandberg Boden Original N2.6 models and see what you think. When I first saw them at NAMM and with a few studio musicians around Nashville, TN I was fascinated by their looks. Now that I have spent time playing them and testing different sounds and styles of music with the Strandberg guitars the sound quality and sustain are what attract me most of all. And while the other guitarists on stage have their standard T-style, S-Style, Pauls and ES guitars you can venture into a new direction with your sound and playability!
The Strandberg Boden Original N2.6 sells for $ 2,499 which is not unreasonable for an instrument that essentially has two guitars in one. If you are looking for more complexity, the Boden Original is available in 7 and 8 string configurations also. As reviewed, both of the guitars featured the optional Fishman built-in rechargeable battery pack to power the pickup system. The Strandberg Boden Standard N2.6 features passive Seymour Duncan Sentient and Pegasus pickups instead of the active POWR: D humbuckers. The Standard is available for $ 1,799 and is available in Transformative Teal Metallic or Black Satin Metallic.
