There I was again , checking Instagram last night and I caught a piece of a song that sounded amazing . I immediately sent it off to my kids and when I woke up , I was still thinking about that song . It just had that sound … that sound I ’ ve been writing about for months ! My wife and I wake up quite early , so by 6am this morning , I already had the chart written and I was learning the cadence of the lyric . If you ’ ve read my articles for long , you are probably already assuming that it ’ s got a country sound , well , this one is more of a country-rock sound !

The 1 , b7 , 4 progression is one of my favorites to play , especially with the Short-Cut Capo . What ’ s that ? It ’ s like a D , C , G or with the Short- Cut that would be E , D , A . This song is recorded in “ Bb ,” but that ’ s way too high for me . If you want to play along with the recording , place your capos at fret 6 ( 6-string ) and 8 ( Short-Cut ). I ’ ll be leading this song in the key of “ G ,” so I ’ ll have my capos at 3 and 5 using this chart .

I love the title . I love the lyric . I love the throwback to songs we used to sing in youth group 40 years ago … “ Praise Him … in the morning , Praise him in the noon time …” The lyric comes from Psalm 103 , “ Bless the Lord O My Soul .” In that Psalm , David is exhorting himself , his inmost self , to magnify , bless , praise the Lord . And , like the lyric of this song sings , “ When the battle feels far from won , When the enemies on the run , I ’ m gonna praise Him , yeah I ’ m gonna praise , When the valley is all I see and I ’ m standing in victory , I ’ m gonna praise , I ’ m gonna praise the Lord .” This is another song that I think is well fit for the Celebrate Recovery group I lead worship for . throughout would be nice , however , you can control the dynamic easily if you ’ re leading by yourself on guitar .

When I teach the song for the first time , I ’ ll probably play through the bridge just once . That ’ s been the hardest part for me to learn . Once I memorize the words , it ’ ll be much

VERSE easier . And , with that being said , I won ’ t lead it until I memorize it . It ’ s not worth rushing and it ’ s impossible to lead people when you ’ re reading the confidence monitor like it ’ s a teleprompter .

Dynamically , I would play the verse with just a straight 8 th down-strum . I think it would sound good partly muted so to save the full volume for the chorus .
