I DIDN ’ T SEE THIS COMING …

A bucket list moment I didn ’ t even see coming . Several years ago , during a trip to Nashville I had the honor of getting to visit the home studio of Phil Keaggy and have lunch with he and Bernadette . It was on my bucket list to experience Phil ’ s studio . After we ate , Phil asked me if I would like to play some guitar in his living room . How could I say no ? I was nervous however and then it got worse . For some unknown reason I only had a jazz guitar pick in my pocket . I never use those . Then the guitar Phil handed me was a bit out of tune and I was having a hard time tuning it . Yikes !

Two years go by , and I finally get the song recorded . I sent it to Phil on a Saturday before Easter and when I come home from church Easter morning the song was waiting for me . I called Phil to thank him profusely as he spent a lot of time engineering it as well as playing on it . My song was 10 times better and had Phil ’ s unmistakable fingerprints on it . Two more years pass and my phone rings . It ’ s Phil and he told me he is doing a second ‘ instrumental duets ’ album and asked me if I would allow him

to place our song “ Joy ” on the record . I said , “ You mean my song that you took and made so much better than it was ?” Ha !

Well , here it is and yes , Phil did take it to the next level like only Phil can . Thank you , Philly ! We are honored ! Kudos to Drew Adolph for playing bass and Mark Shelton on percussion . What a team ! I didn ’ t see this coming …

I did want to show Phil an instrumental song I had been working on that I wrote for Judy called “ Joy ” and played for her countless times while she cooked dinner for me . We played through it a bit . Phil had some suggestions for it chord wise ( which in my nervousness of playing guitar next to one of the most prolific guitar players of my lifetime I promptly forgot ).

I think Phil could sense I was struggling so in his kindness he told me if I ever record the song to send it to him and he would lay an electric guitar track down on it . Wow !
