[ George ] Right now , they are available at Gruhn Guitars in Nashville , TN , and they ’ re available online . If it gets to a point where they are making them faster than I can sell them then we can open up a dealer network . But right now , they are selling as fast as we can make them .
While visiting George in his guitar shop , I was able to play several of his Versitar guitars . The thin finish on the neck and body were very comfortable , as was the thinner body design .
The cutaway provided full access up the neck and the upper bout sound hole projects the sound evenly and quite loudly . Players that are more comfortable playing electric guitars will find the Gruhn guitar an easier transition than most acoustics . It is much easier to play electric styled riffs on the Versitar than standard center sound hole acoustics .
If you visit the Gruhn Guitar website there are testimonials about the Versitars by Billy Strings , Tommy Emmanuel , Steve Earle and Brad Paisley . And Gruhn stated that some highprofile artists have already purchased their own Gruhn Guitar to record with and play live .
The Gruhn Guitar factory is based in Lebanon , TN , has a staff of twelve luthiers under the direction of Jay Myers ( previously of Martin Guitars .) George sounds hopeful that if sales of the Versitar continue at the current pace they will be able to add more staff to the factory and create even more instruments to keep up with the demand .
The base price for a standard model Gruhn Guitars Versitar is $ 2,450 and includes a heavyduty gig bag . Choices of more exotic woods for the top , back , sides and fretboard are optional and reflect an added cost .
I highly recommend playing a Versitar for yourself and if you have the opportunity talk with George Gruhn about this new journey after 53 years of vintage guitar sales . I ’ m looking forward to visiting the factory next and I may need to purchase a Gruhn Guitar for myself also .
