KIDS WORSHIP
IT ’ S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR TO LEAD WORSHIP | Yancy
I love this time of year . There are so many ways we can be intentional in how we craft our worship sets and plan out what we want to share as we lead . Please let this serve as a reminder to be intentional about every set . Don ’ t just get by . Don ’ t just go through the motions and check the box . Seek God for what He wants to do in the lives of those you get to lead . What does He want to say ? What does someone that ’ s attending need to hear ? God knows . Seek Him and His wisdom . Pray and lean into His voice . I know He wants His people to encounter Him . The cool part is He invites us unto that . We get to be a conduit that He moves through . Every song has purpose . Every word you speak becomes an invitation ,
It really is the most wonderful time of the year . It ’ s such a great time to be intentional and use the themes of the seasons to invite others into worship . For this month ’ s theme of thankfulness . Have songs that point to hearts of gratitude . Use the things you say and share to encourage them move them toward a heart posture of being thankful . Use scripture to point the way . Use your own story and experience to connect the dots . Something true of the learning styles of kids is they need concrete . Using a theme like thankfulness in our worship time makes what could be a very mysterious thing become very concrete . We sing praise to God because we want to tell Him how thankful we are . Our songs are a big “ thank You ” to our super wonderful God . Invite them to think about things God has done in their life this year . How did God move in the lives of their friends ? What was a miracle they saw and experienced ? What are you most thankful for ? On and on we could go connecting our offering of worship with the expression of thankfulness . Draw the parallels for them . Use this season , just like wind in a sail that propels a boat on the water further . This is a time that we can push our group farther into worship using themes of the season .
At Christmas there ’ s so many things we could focus on . As I write this I immediately thought of Emmanuel . God is with us . Selah . That ’ s a promise and guarantee . It ’ s not limited to a day or a season . He with us , always . Always ! Twelve months a year . 365 days a year and every single day of our life . Emmanuel coming to earth changed everything .
Obviously , this is a time where we experience a lot of gift-giving . We know the kids we lead are making their Christmas list and have great anticipation for the gifts they will receive . We know that Jesus is the greatest gift . That ’ s reason enough to sing in worship . But also challenge them to give Him a gift too . What does He want ? Us . Our heart . We can give that in worship . The best gift and most important gift they could give this Christmas isn ’ t one wrapped in nice paper or bows . It ’ s not gonna sit under the Christmas tree on the twenty-fifth . The best and most important gift we all could give this Christmas is us , our heart . Remind them in the midst of the awe and wonder of the season to give their offering of worship to King Jesus . That ’ s what He wants most . Help them see and understand so they can lean into a deeper relationship of knowing Him better .
This kind of themed approach can be used throughout the year also . Whether it be
Valentines ’ and love , Easter or even the theme of your camp or VBS . Don ’ t just plan worship as a silo and separate from everything else in the service . Use your teaching themes and themes of the season to help you lead kids in worship more intentionally . As you make it real to them , light bulbs of revelation will illuminate as they understand and comprehend it better , I believe God is going to show up . 2 Chronicles 16:9 says : The Lord looks out over the whole earth . He gives strength to those who commit their lives completely to him .
The Holy Spirit goes where He is welcomed and invited . The sound of our praise is one of His favorite places to dwell . That doesn ’ t change from week to week or season to season .
You are holding a treasure map . As you lead them in worship , you are leading the way . Remember to lead them to Jesus . Help them sit at His feet .
