POST CHRISTIAN MUSICIAN SUMMIT CONFERENCE AFTERGLOW …
Friends are asking me how the 21 st Christian Musician Summit conference went . The answer ? The most wonderful spontaneous worship I have ever experienced !
We have a motto for this conference … “ Ministry moments and musical memories .” It is because we want to be open to what the Lord has for us in this annual gathering ministry wise , and we also aren ’ t afraid to let musicianship be displayed either .
On the main evening concert our plan was to place three gifted worship leaders on the stage at the same time … Brenton Brown , Leeland and Chris McClarney . We knew that they were all good friends , so we thought the relationship and trust between them would be a benefit .
What happened next , we didn ’ t see coming . They had sketched out a 12-song setlist but by the 4th song spontaneous worship just came pouring out of them and the setlist was history . And then Brenton ’ s talented band - Bob Hartry on guitar , Aaron Blanton on drums and Ben Davis on bass followed them wherever they went .
It was a God glorifying evening and the audience went right along with them … each song they transitioned seamless into another . In fact , one song was 38 minutes long . There were moments of dwelling and then another voice of the three ( Brenton , Leeland or Chris ) would rise up and lead us deeper into another song .
Since the audience was made up of worship leaders , worship musicians and tech teams , they sang well and worshiped the Lord right along with the leaders on the platform . It really was amazing - we couldn ’ t have planned it any better - exceedingly beyond all expectations that we could ask or think .
You will learn more from this extraordinary event in the next issue ( December 2023 ) as we have an interview with Brenton , Leeland and Chris for the cover story .
Then in the last general session another spontaneous moment happened . Brian Doerksen drove down from across the border in Canada along with a very talented singer friend of his Marika Siewert and they were welcomed on stage by Brenton and his band . Brenton asked Brian to tell the story behind “ Come Now is the Time to Worship ” that he wrote 25 years ago . Brian gave us all the background of the song and then when Brian started singing it … the audience joined in wholeheartedly . Next came “ Refiner ’ s Fire ”. It was another ministry moment that left everyone exhilarated in the Lord .
I still feel the afterglow of that time of worship … He is worthy !
