WHAT I LEARNED FROM … AL SCHMITT , CHUCK AINLAY , ED CHERNEY , ELLIOT SCHEINER , FRANK FILIPETTI , GEORGE MASSENBURG , AND NIKO BOLAS ( THE METALLIANCE ) | Bill Gibson
This is the first in a series of articles in which I ’ ll share some of the incredible things I ’ ve learned about music , recording , mixing , and all of the considerations that mean even more than correct levels , notes , words , and rhythms .
Around 2009 , I had written 40 + books about audio recording and live sound . I had roughly 2200 pages in The Hal Leonard Recording Method , a 412-page Live Sound book , and several smaller single-topic books . Hal Leonard ( the biggest publisher of sheet music and music books in the world ) had been my distributor and / or publisher since the first book I wrote in 1995 , which was The AudioPro Home Recording Course . I mentioned to Mike Lawson , my Developmental Editor at Hal Leonard , that I can update the books and videos that I already had out , but what I ’ d really like to do is help other industry professionals get the things they ’ d learned and figured out into book form — I was thinking I could help some of my buddies in the Seattle area who are great engineers and musicians .

Are you kidding me ?!” moment ! I had followed everything Quincy and his engineer , Bruce Swedien , had done . If I read about something they did , I would try it in my very next session ! Man , does God think bigger than we do , or what ?! Working with Quincy was a career pinnacle moment for me ! The result of my time with Quincy was Q on Producing : The Soul and Science of Mastering Music and Work .
Recording and Mixing Drums : Contrasting able to help many of my buddies in the Seattle Techniques from Seven Lifetimes of Recording area develop their books , too . Experience . This book is a gift to our industry because we get to hear from seven of the best
