I find so many great songs scrolling through Instagram ! My old friend @ mikehohnholz is the worship pastor at Vancouver Church and he posted one of their new tunes . I called it up on my hour drive to work and just could not stop listening to their latest Christmas release , “ This is Our Hope ”.
The first line just grabbed my attention , “ Clothed in the flesh He created .” What an awesome truth to ponder ! I really love new options for Christmas services . Many of the Christmas tunes are too familiar and often not very conducive to the worship atmosphere most of us try to develop in the room . This song fits the bill in my opinion . The melody is inviting and singable and the chord progression fits so well with the cut capo and is simple to play while leaving you plenty of options to create great dynamics . I encourage you to consider it for your Christmas service this year .
The song is recorded in “ A ” for a female lead and that sings too low for me , so I would capo up to “ C ” with a full capo at 3 and the cut capo at 5 . I ’ ll write the chart in “ A ” and you can capo it up as high as needed . It ’ s a really simple progression that mostly has a droning 1-chord through the verse ( A Asus ). So , up one step ( playing in “ B ”) place a full capo on fret 2 and the cut capo on fret 4 and read the same “ A ” chart .
Playing with just the guitar , I would finger pick the verses and first chorus . Dynamics can really be big with this tune like Vancouver Church recorded it , or an acoustic version could serve the song well . Whatever you ’ re playing this Christmas , make sure you are leading your people to worship the Savior and not just sing about Him ! This is a great song to help with that .
