photo : Bernie Almanzar “ Unsplash ” is too flakey to fill out an application , you don ’ t want him .
The application signals to a potential team member that this is a real commitment . And it tells you that this person has moved past intrigued and is now highly interested – interested enough to fill out an application .
The application should include questions to capture their basic contact info , what role / position they are applying for , their experience and skill level , church involvement , availability , and what I like to call “ fishing questions .” These are questions that give you hints and glimpses into a person ’ s character , level of commitment , true ability ( not just what they tell you directly ), spiritual maturity , etc .
Two good fishing questions are , “ Why do you want to serve on the worship team ?” and , “ What did you like most and what did you like least about your previous worship ministry experience ?” The answers to these questions might reveal motives and issues that send up red flags .
One last thing about the application . Make it thorough without being excessive . If someone won ’ t spend 20 - 30 minutes on an application , you don ’ t want them on your team . But they ’ re also not applying to be on the first SpaceX manned flight to Mars . So don ’ t go overboard .
