SOUND CHECK
TURNING BACK ON THE LIGHTS ?
Here we are coming into the Thanksgiving season . Looking back , it has been quite a year since last Thanksgiving … and that Thanksgiving was a bit messy too . It was hard to meet as families at the dinner table , let alone as a church congregation .
Now it seems like we are turning a corner , but so many challenges remain .
A case in point . Besides publishing [ WM ] each month , I am blessed to be involved in producing a few different live events . Three different mainstream guitar festivals / shows , the Christian Musician Summit training conference , the Pre-NAMM HANG and the Wintergrass Bluegrass Festival . Each event is different and all of them were cancelled last year .
This year some of them are turning back on the lights . We had a very successful Pre-NAMM
HANG in Nashville in July . The Tacoma Guitar & Drum Festival went well ( except the second day was the hottest temperature in history at the Tacoma Dome ). The 30 th Anniversary of the Seattle-Tacoma Guitar Show had a rise in attendance and the guitar market is very hot right now . My third guitar event – the Rose Quarter Guitar Festival in Portland , OR is just two weeks away at the time of this writing , and I am trusting the Lord that it will do well too . Just like publishing this magazine , producing live events is a walk of faith .
However , the Christian Musician Summit conference had to be postponed for the second year . This would have been our 18 th conference in the Northwest . With the current building use policies and other mandates in place , it just would not have looked , felt , or been experienced in the same way as our conference culture needs to be . We need several breakout rooms to teach ( just like in this magazine ) worship leaders , vocalists , guitar , bass , keys , drums , songwriting , audio etc . In this case , it was better to be delayed until 2022 than denied the right way to go about it .
Perhaps everything is back to normal in your church , or everything is trying to work through the ‘ new ’ normal . The one thing we know is that God is faithful and when you place your trust in Him , it is a well-placed trust . We also know that God ’ s Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path . For this Thanksgiving , may you bask in that .
May the Lord turn on the lights in your life as you follow Him !
