SOUND CHECK
WALKING INTO NEW TERRITORY
November 2020 already ? Wow , this year with all of its struggles and challenges has flown by . Normally this time of year , two things are going on in church life for worship leaders , worship band members and tech teams . One , they are preparing for their special Christmas services … special Christmas centric music , adult and children ’ s musicals , pageants and plays . Two , they are looking at preparing their department ’ s budget requests for 2021 . Looking ahead at what they will need monetary wise in the upcoming year .
Well , the virus has thrown a monkey wrench into that as well . Planning your special Christmas services now has new meaning . Will it be partial attendance in person in the sanctuary and the rest live streaming ? Does your tech team need more cameras to capture the “ feel ” of the Christmas centric music and musicals so the worshippers at home can ‘ enter in ’ better ? Can you reach twice the number of people than the usual larger holiday crowds coming to your services in person via social media ? How do you follow up with them if they respond to the gospel message you present ? This is new territory .
Next , looking ahead to 2021 ’ s budget needs for your department . If 72 % of churches surveyed say they are going to continue live streaming even after they can gather together in full capacity as before , what does that mean for your tech team ’ s needs ? Upgrading your live stream equipment and training the people to run it may be a top priority . If you now need to record more of your worship team to use that music in pre-produced segments for live
streaming , do you need a digital mixing console that also can record each channel ? What about those special play back monitors you need for getting the sound balanced for broadcasting on social media ? What about setting up a regiment to clean every microphone used by each department after each service ? What will that cost us and who will be in charge of that ? A lot to consider as we walk into November 2020 .
When walking into new territory ; don ’ t forget to go to the Lord first . Ask , seek and knock . Lord , give us wisdom – we come to you for it !
