I must admit that I was both excited and nervous as I prepared for the Zoom interview with Brooke Ligertwood. I would wake up in the middle of the night and think about a question I should ask her. The last time we connected on Zoom a few years back she was so kind to me and showed me a great honor that after our interview was over, she stated that I had an interesting story to my life and she asked if she could interview me for a newspaper she was doing based on her album called EIGHT. Wow – that caught me off guard. The piece turned out nicely and now I was going to talk with Brooke about her new record EAT, which I was genuinely excited to talk with her about.
Brooke is easy to talk with. She is very conversational and puts you at ease, but just like when I interviewed Darlene Zchech over 20 years ago … there is a depth that you sense at the same time. You feel impressed with the thought,“ Wow, this woman is really doing something in the Lord, perhaps I should stand back and just get out of her way?” After Brooke and I caught up for a few moments, the following conversation pursued …
[ Bruce Adolph ] It is so good to talk with you again Brooke. I am excited to discuss your new album, EAT. It is truly unique. Please tell us about it …
[ Brooke Ligertwood ] EAT is a very distinct album. It’ s not like any other album that I’ ve made thus far, but it is like the album SEVEN and that it was something that I realized that the Lord had initiated and then I caught on to something that God was doing rather than me planning it or pre-meditating and strategizing it.
So, it happened very organically and the whole thing was written just me on a piano in the scripture and the Lord and it really has been ministering to me. As I was writing it, it was medicine to me to be able to just sit in and sing the word over myself. And then funnily enough, I think the first song that I would’ ve written that is on this would be the very last song“ Nations,” and that was 2024.
