Josh at JHS has done it again. The Morning Glory Clean is a brilliant twist on their legendary overdrive, now featuring a direct blend knob that unlocks everything from subtle boost to full-on overdrive brilliance.
OUT OF THE BOX: Unboxing the Morning Glory Clean feels like opening a gift, nestled securely in the signature JHS packaging.
Inside, you’ ll find a sticker and a quick start guide. The pedal itself feels reassuringly sturdy, dressed in that iconic gold flake finish and the unmistakable glory logo. Four smooth-turning knobs— Volume, Drive, Tone, and Clean— sit on top, alongside a responsive footswitch and a vibrant blue LED. Around back, you get standard ¼-inch ins and outs plus a 9V power jack. As the fifth evolution in the Morning Glory line, this pedal truly stands apart.
IN USE: I’ ve long been a Morning Glory devotee, with two on my boards— these pedals are practically essential in the worship guitar world. They add just the right punch to semi-clean lines, letting them shine through even the densest modern mixes.
There’ s a cool backstory here: Josh and jazz virtuoso Julian Lage brainstormed improvements after a revealing soundcheck, and Morning Glory Clean is the result. Still rooted in the Marshall Bluesbreaker circuit, it now boasts a dual 9V power supply for extra headroom. The signature bass cut remains, but you won’ t find the mid-hump of a Tube Screamer.
I couldn’ t wait to put this pedal through its paces. It instantly brought to mind my old Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive, another classic with a clean blend. But side by side, the Morning Glory Clean takes the crown with its silky, lightly compressed tone, compact footprint, and impressively low noise. Granted, my Sparkle Drive is ancient, so maybe the new ones are better. I dove right in, tweaking the Drive and Clean controls. The Clean knob is a clever dual-gang pot, offering true parallel
