on the bottom of each earpiece . You can just use one or the other on either side . The MM- 500 , on the other hand , uses balanced mini XLR jacks . Right and left channels on both the MM-100 and MM-500 will always be played correctly , i . e . without phase issues no matter which side you connect to . The only drawback of this feature is that if you are going to buy a replacement cable , you will have to make sure that it is compatible with the MM-100 as the internal wiring on the ear cups is going to be different than other headphones .
Note that the cable that comes with the MM- 100 terminates in a hard wired balanced TRS quarter inch jack which may be an issue for some people . If you want to connect to a TRRS stereo mini jack , you will need to use an a TRS to TRRS adapter .
In terms of sound quality , the MM-100 ’ s delivers a balanced listening experience across the entire audio frequency spectrum . Bass frequencies are pronounced , but not muddy , the midrange is clear , and treble does not roll off at the very top end of the frequency spectrum . Vocals and instruments on the MM-100 are emphasized , and instruments on the MM-100 tend to be pushed forward instead of being in the background . The MM-100 headphones have a narrow soundstage due in part to the vocals and instruments being so forward . Even with its narrow soundstage , the imaging on the MM-100 headphones is excellent . You can pinpoint where the different instrument sounds are coming from , even though you do not have that wide of a soundstage .
Overall , listening to Vocals on the MM-100 comes across as having air , presence , clarity , no harshness , and plenty of detailed articulation . Again , the sonic characteristics of both the MM-100 And MM-500 are similar , but the MM-500 has a better soundstage , has better imaging , and has better instrument separation . That said , the MM-100 is not a perfectly color neutral headphone . The MM-100 does have some colorations to it , but it falls within the window of what the average person would consider neutral . The MM-500 headphones on the other hand is designed for professional engineers . The MM-500 ’ s are designed to deliver ruler flat frequency response and are well suited for high end mixing , mastering and immersive audio applications .
At $ 399 , the MM-100 ’ s are an excellent value for a pair of Audeze professional quality studio headphones and are the most affordable pair of headphones Audeze has ever offered . To keep the price down , Audeze had to choose to make some intelligent compromises delivering most of the sonic aspects of the MM-500 ’ s , a pair of which by the way will set you back $ 1,699 . The MM-100 is designed to be used as your daily go-to headphones for tracking and mixing . The MM-2100 is also a great pair of headphones for live applications , either on stage or behind the mixing console . For Churches and Houses of Worship as well as project studio the MM-100 may well be a significant step up especially if you are shopping in the sub- $ 500 price point category .
