lead tone . Right away , I felt like it responded to what I was going for . The distortion was thick , yet pleasant to my ears and I really wasn ’ t able to find a bad tone . Even at 100 %, I was able to get some incredible sounds with no unwanted spikes in overtones . I kept playing like this for a while , practiced the set for the worship night and went to bed .
It is now the next day , I ’ m on stage getting everything dialed in and we start the set . Somewhere in the middle of it , my whole view of this pedal was transformed . See , I went to bed the night before only thinking of it as a high gain pedal . But wouldn ’ t you know , I called up the first gain stage of the Mr . Jax by accident ( I ’ m re-learning my board ) and … it sounded amazing . I started using it at 50 % then going up to 75-100 % for the solos and it became clear : this thing is not a one trick pony . I got some beautiful transparent overdrive-like tones in the lower stages , and it balanced beautifully with the lead tones . The soft switch was intuitive when changing between gain stages and even offers preset settings . This is when I really started to have fun with the pedal . This is a reflection of the genius that Junior over at JET Pedals brings - versatility and tone quality . You see it in his other pedals like the Lion , the Lamb and my personal favorite of his , the Revelation , amongst other pedals he makes .
Whether it ’ s a “ set it and forget it ” pedal you punch in for leads , or the one overdrive on your board that you use for multiple gain staging , the Mr . Jax is truly a Swiss-knife overdrive pedal that let ’ s you keep playing and gives versatility with a press of a switch .
Chris and I also talked about the importance of pedals responding well to both amps and modelers , especially now with IR ’ s sounding better than ever and being the easier solution for a lot of guitarists in the P & W circles . If you follow Chris , you ’ ll notice that his rig changes according to the venue he is playing . Sometimes he ’ s going into an amp , but for most of his touring , he ’ s using a Line 6 HX Stomp as his amp modeler , with pedals behind it . The Mr .
Jax excels in both scenarios .
If it hasn ’ t been clear yet , I obviously love this pedal . I ’ d easily recommend this pedal to anyone looking to add more versatile overdrives to their boards . Chris and Junior ( JET Pedals ), I thank you for coming up with such a fun pedal . I can ’ t wait to see it on many boards and see all the different uses that they ’ ll get out of it .
[ Chris ] When it came time to naming this pedal it was an easy call . I remember about 9 years ago I was doing a recording session at my house as usual with a friend and I remember hearing one of the most horrendous sounds from my wife . I quickly stopped the music and went to her . I vividly remember seeing her on the floor screaming . I told my friend to watch over my daughter while I rush my wife to the hospital . I picked her up and carried her downstairs and to my car . As I get in and start driving , I realize that my pants are soaking wet but not from water , from blood . My wife was 11 weeks pregnant at the time and the fact that she was bleeding that bad could only mean
one thing . We started praying as I drove her to the emergency room . When we got there , they made us wait cause they were busy . Hours went by and my wife continued to bleed . Finally , they called us back and did a sonogram . We saw the chaos that was going on in her uterus , it looked like a bad storm from the hemorrhaging but low and behold there was my baby still alive . After that my wife was on bed rest for the remaining pregnancy . She went full term and had a healthy baby boy . We named him Jax which means ‘ God has shown favor ’. Now I have a signature pedal that represents God ’ s favor upon my life . I hope you guys enjoy Mr Jax as much as I do .
