write songs . So , in a lot of ways that opened a lot of doors for me musically , but I think more than that season of his life , it ' s just the way that he gives of himself .
That has been the biggest model . And I think even not just as my Dad , but as people on our staff or as a father figure to so many people that I know or as a pastor to so many people . He ' s that way with every single person . And it ' s more than just the construct of a worship time on a Sunday . It is the life of worship .
And I think a lot of times we hear that but maybe don ' t always see it . And here we see it everywhere . It ’ s just the worship that he brings every day of his life . I love that , Carlos has said it a few times , but the music aspect of worship is such small , but mighty part of what we do .
But I love that it is not the meat of what we do . It is just one aspect . It ' s one beautiful branch of the tree , but it is not the tree . And so , I feel like that ' s very humbling in a lot of ways because we can do all that we want but at the end of the day people hearing about Jesus is the number one motivation . We love singing and people love music and love worship , but we know that ' s not the only way that God moves . It is just one small part of the whole . I feel like he , my Dad , has personified that it ' s not what we do on the platform … it ' s who we are off of the platform that elevates that .
[ WM ] That ' s wonderful .
[ Mariah ] I could go on all day about my Dad because I love him pretty much . And I think he ' s the best , but it really is the soul of everything that we do is very much from that example .
[ WM ] That ’ s a beautiful answer . What are your hopes for This is How I Thank the Lord ?
[ Carlos ] Well , man , we really hope that these songs will find someone who ' s empty . That these songs will be the water that they need . That there ' s someone in a remote part of the world that is listening to our Spotify and there will be something in these songs that would spark curiosity in their hearts , that would point them towards Jesus .
The songs come from such a deep place of going through real hard moments . And we know , it ' s something that it was not unique to us . We know that there ' s so many people that went through the same things all around the world . And there ' re people that still , they ' re trying to find the hope that we have . And our hope is that people will find hope , they will find Jesus through this music .
And for churches , I hope that these songs will also help them facilitate creating new and fresh spaces of worship . And yeah , our hope is that so many churches will play our songs and that people would like the music that we ' re doing . And we do it with a lot of effort and a lot of love . And it ' s very special when we get to hear feedback from people saying how they like and how they feel , how these songs speak into their lives .
