CAPO GUITAR
LO WORSHIP,“ THE PERFECT LOVE OF JESUS” | Mitch Bohannon
The first time I heard this song with my wife, we were driving out of town, and we must have hit“ repeat” four times before we went on to another song … and then we came back to“ The Perfect Love of Jesus.” What a powerful song! I knew that day that I wanted to feature it in this article. If you’ re not familiar with LO Worship, they hail from my state of Louisiana … check them out!
I could imagine using this song somewhere in the middle of a worship set, at the end, or even as a response song. The bridge has an incredible statement,“ I’ m loved, I’ m chosen, your arms wide open, I could never mess it up.” That message alone on repeat in a response time could be incredible.
I just love the chord progression from this song with the Short-Cut Capo. It features a smooth bass walk and is really easy to play. Once you get the pattern down, it repeats over and over through the verse, the chorus, and the bridge. Stepping from the“ E” to the“ B / D #” down to“ A / C #” to“ E / B” down to the“ A” then“ E / G #,” back to“ A” and“ B” and move to a different section or it can resolve on“ E.”
It’ s a beautiful pattern. Finger-style can really make it come to life and highlight the movement. Check out the video to see how I’ m interpreting it. You could easily come up with a flat pick, easy strum arrangement if you’ re not comfortable with finger-style.

If you listen to the live version from LO Worship, they will loop back and forth between the chorus and the bridge. It’ s open to how your congregation would respond. When I lead it, I plan to start with a simple 2x Bridge section and back to chorus. Once people learn the song and begin responding, extra repeats can be added. I believe that’ s really important to do with every song. Interpret it for your congregation rather than lock yourself into a recorded song structure.
