But if you haven’ t clearly explained why, your team may just feel pressure without purpose.
WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT
1. Over-communicate the“ why.” Easter isn’ t about performance— it’ s about clarity. Remind your team that we’ re removing distractions so people can see Jesus more clearly.
2. Clarify the win. Is the win excellence? Engagement? Smooth transitions? Spiritual sensitivity? Say it out loud.
3. Set expectations early. Don’ t wait until the Thursday before Palm Sunday to mention you want tighter harmonies.
When expectations are clear, anxiety drops and ownership rises.
TOXIC ISSUE # 2: LOW-LEVEL CONFLICT( THAT NO- BODY TALKS ABOUT) Here’ s the thing about worship teams: We’ re artists. We’ re volunteers. We’ re passionate. We’ re tired. And we all have opinions about tempos.
Low-level conflict rarely explodes. It simmers. It looks like:
● Side comments.
● Eye contact during rehearsal.
● Quiet disengagement.
●“ Sure, whatever you want.”
March stress tends to amplify these cracks. The pressure of Easter doesn’ t create conflict— it reveals it. And if you ignore it until after Easter, don’ t be surprised if half your team disappears in May.
WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT 1. Address things quickly.
Not dramatically. Just directly.
2. Assume positive intent. Most tension isn’ t rebellion— it’ s miscommunication.
3. Have courageous one-on-one conversations. Not group corrections. Personal conversations.
4. Model humility. When you say,“ Hey, I could’ ve handled that better,” you create oxygen in the room.
Healthy teams don’ t avoid conflict. They resolve it.
WHY THIS MATTERS BEFORE EASTER Easter amplifies everything.
● A unified team becomes electric.
● A fractured team becomes exhausting.
● Clear expectations produce confidence.
● Murky leadership produces stress.
You can’ t fake unity on Resurrection Sunday. And here’ s what many leaders forget: Easter isn’ t the finish line. It’ s a launch pad. If March is chaotic and relationally tense, you’ ll spend April repairing instead of rebuilding.
Rebuilding After Easter Let’ s be honest— the week after Easter feels like the Monday after running a marathon. You’ re tired. Your team is tired. Attendance spikes and then normalizes. The adrenaline fades. This is where leadership matters most.
AFTER EASTER, DO THREE THINGS:
1. Celebrate intentionally. Don’ t assume people know they did a good job. Tell them. Write notes. Publicly thank them. Make it specific.
2. Debrief honestly. What worked? What didn’ t? What do we improve next year? Keep emotion out and growth in.
3. Rebuild culture. Easter can unintentionally shift teams into performance mode. Bring them back to purpose. Back to discipleship. Back to shepherding.
Remind them: We’ re not building events. We’ re building people.
A Slightly Humorous Reality Check If your team survives:
● Extra rehearsals,
● Last-minute arrangement changes,
● A dramatic key change suggestion from the electric guitarist,
● And the alto who always sings harmony louder than the melody … … then you can survive anything. But survival isn’ t the goal. Health is.
FINAL ENCOURAGEMENT FOR MARCH March is not just prep month. It’ s culture month. You’ re not just building a set list. You’ re building trust. You’ re not just planning transitions. You’ re shaping a team.
So before you finalize the Easter opener … Before you debate whether to repeat the bridge … Before you send another scheduling email …
Ask yourself:
● Are expectations clear?
● Is there unresolved tension?
● Have I communicated the“ why”?
● Am I leading with courage and humility?
Because the best Easter services don’ t start with a big song. They start with a healthy team. And that kind of leadership that lasts long after the lilies are gone.
