JZ BH2 mic locker I have several BLUE mics from a Baby Bottle to a Mouse and a Kiwi as well , each with its unique application and response . When comparing the V67 to the Mouse , for instance , the V67 is either more subdued or more balanced , depending on your perspective and sonic desire , but it is never “ less than ” the Mouse . Its 25cm diaphragm holds its own against the larger 34cm of the Mouse when presented with big energy while affording the unique ability to capture more subtlety when the signal is gentler . The V67 is , in my opinion , a near-perfect balance between roar and whisper . It locates and delivers a beautifully robust , yet precise rendition of the source with little to no coloration . In my book , that is a resounding win .
JZ also sent me a Black Hole BH2 mic to evaluate . While the V67 is vintage and neutral , the BH2 is modern and slightly bright ; not to the extent of other brands , but incrementally more so than “ classic ” might suggest . The BH2 ’ s form is rather arresting , and it has well earned its Black Hole name , but it is the sound that sets it apart . As a single pattern cardioid condenser , it doesn ’ t have the versatility of its more expensive sibling , the multi-pattered and pad equipped BH1s , but what the BH2 does , it does exceedingly well . On electric guitar cabinets the BH2 carried all the information to the recorder without glaring side effects while on female vocals it boasted a focus unexpected from its 25cm diaphragm . Without its unique shock mount , the BH2 handled external vibration with ease , but the shock mount did prove itself worthy when confronted with hollow stage resonance which it silenced with aplomb . For anyone seeking the depth of a $ 2000 mic at half the price , there is little competition to the JZ BH2 .
JZ Microphones is a prime example of how a small firm with great talent and dedication can succeed in a world of multinational corporations through determination and industry leading quality .
