God has called each and every one of us to make a difference in the world and being an effective guitarist puts us in the position to do so . In this article , Andrés Castro and I detail how to become an effective guitarist . There are many perspectives on how to be an effective guitarist , but as worship guitarists we must have some things that distinguish us from others .
EXCELLENCE IN WHAT WE DO .
As Christians we cannot adopt a mindset that we can do our work in any way and not have a spirit of excellence in what we do . Many think that God loves us and is pleased with what we do and do not put their best foot forward . Instead , we must be the best in what we do and bring honor to God to the best of our ability . Some of the ways we can do that is prepare ourselves and try and become the best musicians . For those guitarists who play the best and those who have the best sound it ’ s important not to forget that what people see when we are playing is what will give them an image of what it means to be a Christian .
LEARN TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS :
We cannot forget that our job as a guitarist is to put our talent where a band or song needs it and not to try and show how skilled one is . Unfortunately , many fail in this area since they like to play whatever they want opposed to what the band , song , or producer are searching for in a song .
BE PREPARED FOR CHANGES :
In the world of music , anything can happen . Anything from set-lists or tonalities of the songs can change at a moment ’ s notice . If you ’ re playing at a church a new song can be requested that you ’ ve never heard of , and this can ' t stop you from doing your job and doing it well and with the best attitude .
LEARN TO WORK TOGETHER :
This is one of the most difficult topics for many . Music is a preference of persons and opinion , and we don ’ t always view eye to eye with others in regards to music . That is why we must
be ready to listen and respect what others do . And also respect the opinion that many have about your work .
OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE :
Many believe that playing guitar in the worship world is just learning songs that others made and performing it . However , our spiritual life is the most essential part of all this , it is what makes us different when we are on stage . Our relationship with God will be reflected in all that we do . It is not only for those who lead the praise , we also must practice holiness and offer genuine worship with our instrument .
Chris Rocha Chris Rocha is an American Christian producer , guitarist , business owner and pioneer in the Spanish Christian music industry . He is a two time Dove Award winner , has worked on two Grammy award winning records and has produced or recorded guitars on 5 Grammy nominated albums .
Andrés Castro Guitarist of the band Generación 12 with more than 20 years of experience , has also played guitar with artists such as Alex Campos , Marco Barrientos , Martín Smith , Kike Pavon Musiko , among others .
