Even with my somewhat limited ability as a vocalist , it can be wonderful to express myself artistically as an individual - singing songs in my own way that creatively moves away from the standard melody . I can understand how singers with greater vocal ability than I must ache to express themselves in this way . But when we ’ re leading our regular , Sunday morning ( or any other time ) church congregation to sing as an expression of worship to God , we must restrain ourselves . I am finding that it is far more rewarding to encourage and guide others to declare God ’ s worth together than to sing songs “ my way ”.
don ’ t know if the vocalist Jessica Ruiz is a pro singer or not , but I sense that she ’ s familiar with leading church congregations to sing . As you watch , please notice how - before she begins to sing - she asks the crowd to join her . Once she has established the song ’ s key , tempo and navigated the crowd to find their voice , she humbly drops the microphone and allows the crowd to seize the moment . She could have kept this as her moment . A chance to have a big , listening audience . But instead , Jessica Ruiz decided to become a small part of something way bigger than herself . Beautiful .
Having a crowd sing their National Anthem , declaring love for their home country , can be a good and important thing to do . But we , the Body of Believers , declaring anthems of adoration to Almighty God is surely even more important than that !
