SOUND CHECK
ONE MORE STEP …
Judy and I read a scripture this morning in the Book of Acts that was like all the Word can be … illuminating . Through Peter , the Lord had healed the crippled man ’ s ankles and legs at Solomon ’ s portico . The religious leaders , priest and the captain of the guard came along and arrested both Peter and John for talking about the fact that Jesus had risen from the dead . The next day they brought them before the whole lot of rulers , elders and scribes to question them . I guess they hadn ’ t learned their lesson from trying to question Jesus not that long before .
They asked them , “ By what power , or in what name , have you done this ?” Acts 4:7 . Then Peter filled with the Holy Spirit answered them
so skillfully that they marveled . These were uneducated and untrained men that were confidently standing before them telling them in conclusion that , “ there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men , by which we must be saved .” Acts 4:12
It dawned on that gathering in Jerusalem of rulers , elders and scribes that Peter and John had been with Jesus . The time they spent with Jesus changed them … quite dramatically .
That is the devotional point I would like to draw out of this Sound Check for us all today .
The time we spend with Jesus matters . It matters in our own personal walk with him , with our family life , with our vocational and volunteer roles at church and elsewhere . And , those that don ’ t know Jesus as their Savior - as the only name under heaven by which men can be saved - can sometimes marvel at us ( to God ’ s glory ) if we spend time with Jesus .
May we all take one more step in that direction today . One bit more of spending time with Jesus . He will change us – for the good !
