losing their businesses , and we ’ ve been very blessed and have been praising God every day . We ’ ve gone through so many ups and downs in this season , because in Christian music , touring is where we make money . If you had asked me last March if I would be around right now after the shutdown , I would say no . I would have thought there would be absolutely no way we would make it , but we have . And it ’ s just the Lord . So , we ’ re very expectant , we ’ re believing for some really amazing things to come and for the Lord to provide . I have Covid19 right now ( laughs ). So , it ’ s one of those things that we ’ re all going through and dealing with in some way .
[ WM ] Oh my goodness ! I can ’ t believe that you ’ re spending this time with me . Should we continue ?
[ Jordan ] Yes , for sure .
[ WM ] Ok . On a lighter note , do you have a “ go to ” guitar or keyboard that you enjoy writing and performing with ?
[ Jordan ] My go to guitar for writing is my Taylor 815 , no cutaway . It ’ s amazing , I love Taylor so much and they ’ ve been so kind to me over my career . I have a piano that ’ s been in my family forever . The stamp on it is from the 1890 ’ s , but the last time it was tuned was a long time ago , so I need to get some work done on it . It doesn ’ t sound very good , but I always write on it . I want to get it worked on , but it ’ s just another expense that we can ’ t take on in this time . Maybe at some point we ’ ll be able to . It ’ s called Kendrick & Sons , and is New York manufactured . They don ’ t make pianos anymore , but they are like the heaviest pianos you ’ ll ever have . The one I have is a solid walnut and cast iron .
[ WM ] Lastly , aspiring worship leaders and artists who wish to record and tour are often met with disillusionment upon entering the Christian Music “ industry ”. This can come from many different areas . Churches , promoters , agents , attorneys , record labels , and even fellow artists can make that list . The perceived glamour and glitz of that lifestyle is often a misplaced ideal . What words of wisdom do you have for our readers about some of the pitfalls and realities that you ’ ve encountered , and how you have overcome those surprises ?
[ Jordan ] That ’ s a fantastic question . The majority of what you just asked was a large portion of why I had anxiety for so many years . It was really just from the industry . I ’ m such a people pleaser , and I learned that you ’ re never going to be able to please everybody . You ’ re always going to let somebody down .
And so my advice is probably the most cliché advice ever , and it ’ s been told to you your entire life , but until you actually practice it … and once you actually get into the industry you ’ ll realize how many people actually don ’ t do this which is also a little disheartening . But you need to be praying about every decision that you make . Whether that be about a show that you got , or a tour offer , or anything , you need to be praying about it . And the reason behind that is if you don ’ t somebody will always be mad about a decision made , there is just no doubt about it .
Maybe it ’ s not the right look , or there ’ s not enough money , or this or that . It ’ s always something . But if you ’ ve prayed about it and you ’ ve got a confirmation from the Lord , then
you know you ’ re in the right spot . You ’ re not acting in your own confidence and your own power , of which we have none . But we do have our free will . We always want to know that God is behind the decision that we ’ re making , because trust me , for a couple years there I was doing whatever I thought was the right thing to do by as many people as possible . I thought , “ Everybody likes this idea , so I ’ ll just do it ”. It made my family miserable . So , who are you really choosing ? So , my number one thing with all of this is you just have to be praying into every decision that is made , and God will confirm it , anything and everything that you ask Him to . You may have to be a little patient , but I promise you it will happen .
[ WM ] You ’ re right . It all becomes a twist on the old Christian adage that instead turns out to be , “ Everybody loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life ”! Jordan , it ’ s been a delight visiting with you today . Thank you so much for the time .
