a mere three months into his young life when his parents were called to Argentina . They remained in Argentina for 17 years !
While in Argentina , Rupert was in a weekly boarding school and became interested in electronics early on . He started his first business assembling radio sets for the local supply center while he was still in school . At that time , during WWII , the Argentinians couldn ’ t purchase regular domestic radios because their supply came from the U . S . and Europe , and the German Army made sure they sank all of the ships whose cargo included radios . Since he spent the weekends at home with his parents , he ’ d assemble tube radio receiver sets over the weekend out of readily available parts in Argentina and then , on his way back to school on Monday , would hand carry his work to the local dealer and get paid for it - this was as a teenager !
Through his early radio designs , Rupert was always trying to improve the sound quality , striving for better clarity , and more bass , and so on . When he left school , he went to work in a highly classified communications job at the British Embassy in Montevideo , Uruguay , which lead to more and more experience in the military . Just before he was 18 , he went back to England to join the Royal Corps of Signals , providing battlefield communication and info systems for the British Army . And his growth and understanding of sound and design continued all the way up to a few weeks ago !
It was Rupert Neve ’ s conclusion that the human brain and hearing system have the capacity to perceive sounds far above the understood 20 kHz limit . So , he built much of his equipment with the ability to capture frequencies up to 100 kHz , preferring to capture the naturally existing artifacts in the band above 20 kHz rather than inducing destructive artifacts that were the results of a poorly designed circuit .
His Christian roots stuck with him throughout his life . In an interview for the NAMM Oral History program , when asked about his Recording Academy Trustee Award ( the third award of its type ever given ), Rupert shared , “ I ’ m delighted that people like what I do , but I don ’ t do it for the
