With concerts and public gatherings no longer a thing in the world since COVID began , people long for those days when you could grab some friends , buy a couple of seats and spend an evening worshipping with your favorite Christian
artist or dancing the night away to your favorite band . I think it is safe to say that people miss the concerts these days . Enter Australia ’ s Hillsong United whose latest release , The People Tour ; Live From Madison Garden , seeks to give fans a live Hillsong UNITED experience from the comfort of their own couches . The audio recording contains 23 tracks recorded from their 2019 tour at Madison Square Garden in New York and there is also a full movie experience as well
Most of the huge 23 song track list are obviously taken from their 2019 release , People but they also mix in a few well-loved UNITED classics including “ Oceans ”, “ So Will 1 ( 100 Billion X ), “ The Stand ” and others that UNITED fans will appreciate .
A few of the standout tracks include “ Ready or Not ” which is the perfect concert or service opener as it begins with Joel Houston and a single piano as he prepares people ’ s hearts for what God is about to do in their lives through the worship experience . The song builds in focus and intensity through the bridge section as Houston and crew shout about the ways that Jesus is the Way and that He exceeds our every expectation because of His faithfulness .
Songs like “ Behold ( Then Sings My Soul )” and “ With Everything ” will bring you to your knees in worship and are some of the most intimate and moving songs of the experience .
Good Grace ” is a wonderful exposition about how the power of the cross stands the test of time and that no matter what we face , our God ’ s mercy and grace cover us . The sound of thousands of voices singing in unison in worship to Jesus made me long for the days of worshiping with others in a shared space .
This overall concert experience may be the best live Hillsong album to date . The power of the moment is captured from the first track and I was surprised that how quickly 23 tracks floated by as I listened and sung along with some of my favorite UNITED songs . The mix is excellent and the crowd does not overshadow the band and at times I felt like I was actually in the crowd .
Hillsong United have come a long way both in their writing and presentation of the Gospel message in their concerts . They have indeed grown up and their spiritual maturity is evident in the songs they write .
