A / B approach when choosing a compressor as I was really blown away at the massive difference it made . You can also alternate between compressors almost like you would drive pedals when using this model . As noted below I ’ d suggest starting with the Modulation Reverb . It ’ s so good you might not need delay on all your presets . Did I actually say that ?
ACOUSTIC FRIEDLY Per the demo , the QC did a great job of bringing the American Acoustasonic Jazzmaster to life . While there were not any stand-alone preamps in the model list yet , the Roland JC-120 model got me there in combination with the Modulated Reverb which is probably going to be where a lot of PDub peeps live on the reverb front .
GIVE THE BASS PLAYER SOME In my next demo ( you ’ ll be able to find it via the Acoustasonic + Quad Cortex demo ), I dialed in some classic Ampeg flip-top tones . So whether
you ’ re the bass playing type , or you simply want to track bass at home , the QC has you dialed .
MULTIPLAYER FRIENDLY So , if you dare , imagine a single QC sitting at the mixing desk with four team members using DI boxes feeding it via a stage box . All the processing power you need to get the job done and with a little pre-production time , everyone could have dream-worthy tone . Also a great solution for youth worship teams .
THE CORTEX CLOUD Once you ’ ve set up your account with Neural DSP you will be able to stow and share presets as well as unlock the IR library on the Cortex Cloud via the Cortex Mobile app for iOS and Android . I ’ ll be offering an array of Presets , so I invite you to stay in touch !
DEEP EDITOR At the time of this review , there is not a deep editor available yet , but it is supposed to be coming . As much as the rotary encoders on the footswitches are awesome for fine-tuning your sounds , they are actually footswitches and that means this thing was designed to live on the floor . A deep editor is a must for ‘ studio rats ’ like myself .
INTERFACE + STREAMING The QC is USB 2 class compliant for use as an audio interface . Since the two main inputs utilize combi jacks , this is great for instruments and mics for recording and / or streaming . A box like the Radial Hotshot 48v enables you to footswitch your mic on an off to avoid bleed and / or feedback from your monitors .
CONCLUSION If the hordes of people watching gear demos and hanging out in FB user groups are a hint of things to come , the QC is going to be massively popular , and for good reason . This is a phenomenal piece of technology that is going to be used by a massive range of musicians . All that to say yes , it lives up to the hype !
