WAMPLER GOLDEN JUBILEE PEDAL | Michael Hodge
KEY FEATURES
• Two Iconic tones in one Pedal
• British Marshall Silver Jubilee
• American Mesa / Boogie Mark IIC /+
• Two Channels Stackable together
• Unique Individual Character Switch
Brian Wampler delivers a dynamic combo pedal, featuring two exceptional circuits— each distinct and stackable. The Golden Jubilee merges meaty Mesa Mark II distortion with Marshall Plexi JTM-inspired overdrive.
OUT OF THE BOX: The Golden Jubilee arrives in a velvety drawstring bag. Inside, you’ ll find two stickers, four rubber feet, a clear quick-start guide, and a Wampler pick. The pedal’ s sturdy metal case is racing green with a metalflake finish and gold anodized knobs, making it visually striking.
Six bright gold knobs are arranged in two rows: Gain, Tone, and Volume for each circuit. The top row controls the Marshall Silver Jubileestyle overdrive; the bottom row, the Mesa /
Boogie Mark IIC /+- inspired distortion. Each has its own character mini switch: Bright / Dark for distortion, Normal / Hard clipping for overdrive. A third mini switch selects the circuit order. Each circuit features a dedicated foot switch and LED: yellow for Overdrive, red for Distortion. Inputs and outputs are standard ¼-inch jacks, with a power jack accepting 9V or 18V DC( draw: 30 mA).
IN USE: I’ ve always been a read-the-whole-manual guy. The quick start guide includes six pictures of the pedal with different settings. It’ s a nice bit of thoughtfulness, since there are so many possible tones and distorted possibilities from crunch to solo sounds. I learned a lot about the way the pedal works, and I highly recommend going through each example. The Marshall crunch sound is authentic. You get that low-end pump with the classic grindy upper midrange. It’ s one of the best“ Marshall” circuits I’ ve run across. If you have played through a Marshall amp, you’ ll likely agree. These guys did a really good job. I like how the chords ring out with each note coming through. Turning the guitar’ s volume down brings that well-defined, slightly overdriven sound without losing the Marshall
vibe. I’ m super happy with the Marshall circuit. The Marshall“ sound” is one of the must-haves for any studio guy. There’ s a unique rock vibe with a Marshall, and part of that sound is the ability to push air with a cab loaded with 4 x 12 Inch speakers into high volume, adding incredible sustain when the guitar gets close to the cabs. The Golden Jubilee did a good job making my 62 Fender Deluxe sound very Marshall-Esque in an AC30 2x12 cabinet.
Not to be outdone, the Mesa / Boogie circuit is also a classic sound coming from California. This Mesa / Boogie 100-watt beast is known for punchy lower midrange to sizzling lead tones. The Head usually came with a cream-colored wicker grille, the iconic 5-frequency graphic EQ, 6 preamp tubes, Effects loop, and 4 power tubes. It’ s classic 80’ s, and lots of Metal guys loved the power and the sound. The Golden Jubilee does a nice emulation of this powerful sound with lots of sustain and crisp energy. Being from Southern California, I remember when this amp was all the rage when I started out. I appreciate what this circuit does; it’ s punchy, with plenty of sustain for leads, especially in DS mini-switch mode.
