CREATIVES: CHILDREN OF A CREATIVE GOD
Over the last while, the term“ creatives” has become more popular. Personally, I like the term. In the context of worship music, it is often used to describe worship leaders / musicians as the ones who actually write new worship songs. They are acting creatively … thus they are dubbed“ creatives.”
But this subject can go very deep very quickly. We are children of the Creator. Just that statement alone leads you to look at God as creative. Look at the animal kingdom, the birds of the air, the insects in the ground, the fish in the sea, the planets and how they obey Him. And who is“ Him” in this statement? Well, it is both God the Father and God the Son. One in purpose: Together, the Father and the Son created the universe in perfect unity.
“ For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.” Colossians 1:16
And let’ s not forget the Holy Spirit.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:1 – 2
Creative people reflect God. We are made in His image. I would present that we are all“ creatives” and have something to offer the corporate worship we gather for. From the drummer and bass player laying the rhythmic foundation, the keys and guitar parts layering in chords and melody, the vocalists, the lighting crew, sound techs and presentation software team all under the guidance of a worship leader or two – all have a hand in serving the Creator God creatively.
This issue features some of my favorite“ creatives.” People who intentional pursue creative endeavors musically and beyond. The interview with both Benjamin William Hastings and Aodhán King, as well as the sit-down discussion with Steve Taylor exemplifies this train of thought. Glean from these. Also, our regular writing staff – these columnists are unique creatives in their own right. Lean into what they have to say.
As followers of Christ – we are all creatives – children of a Creative God.
Let’ s be who we are called to be …
