If you ’ re looking for an above average travel , sing along or camp guitar and require a better than average value for your money , meet the Kala Solid Spruce Top Ebony Orchestra Mini Guitar . Although the name of the guitar exceeds the size of the instrument don ’ t let that fool you . The team here at [ WM ] were surprised by the full sound , build quality and visual impact of this diminutive instrument .
With a nut width of 1.688 ” the Kala Ebony Mini could also be an excellent guitar for younger musicians or adults with smaller hands . The spruce top delivers classic tone but the ebony back , sides and fingerboard are just stunning . I ’ m not sure why we don ’ t see this wood combination in more acoustic instruments now that I have seen and played this Kala .
The Satin finish doesn ’ t reflect any finger smears and adds to the higher-end visual impact . Cream binding on the Kala is crafted on the front and back of the body and on both sides of the fretboard . The bone nut and saddle provide crystal clear tone . It is a non-cutaway instrument , which adds to the fullness of sound considering its smaller size , but you have a full 20-frets to work within and it takes capos effortlessly .
Closed chrome tuners keep the strings in pitch and Kala has already installed strap buttons at the neck and the lower body of the guitar . Priced at only $ 369 street I don ’ t know how Kala is delivering this level of instrument in this price range .
For travel , practice , songwriting , or any youth group function this would be my go-to guitar . My only personal additions for the Kala Ebony Orchestra Mini guitar would be a simple passive internal pickup and a gig bag for transport . But , at this inexpensive price point it isn ’ t a stretch to have a pickup installed and purchase your own gig bag and still not break the bank .
