DANIEL DOSS “ GOODNESS GOES ON AND ON ” | Mitch Bohannon

Do you remember the Daniel Doss Band record from 2008 ? I wore that record out ! “ Great God ,” “ Lord Reign ,” “ Love Like Rain ”… so good . After that Daniel Doss Band album , Daniel did some pastoring near Chicago and then in 2014 moved back to Nashville and soon worked as a staff writer for Word . During the pandemic , he turned his attention back to his own music and ministry and I ’ m so glad he did ! I ’ m just drawn to that gritty , down-south sound . And that goodness continues with his latest song drop , “ Goodness Goes On and On ” which he actually wrote in 2017 .

This song of praise is certain to move the people that you lead and will have them looping the chorus in their minds as they go through their week . The song , written in the key of “ A ,” is a great fit for playing with the cut capo . It ’ s perfect just with a simple guitar or you can make it as country or non-country as you would like just with the way you want to arrange it . No surprise , I ’ ll take country !

It starts up with a simple drive that backs down to make room for verse lyrics . This serves as a great setup for the chorus groove to come in strong . The song slowly builds dynamically through verse 2 and a double chorus leading up to the bridge and then it does a dynamic reset … start with a down bridge and then build again to a big chorus and out .

Side note , as you are building songs dynamically , if you ’ re not using a click track , please pay strict attention to your tempo . It ’ s so easy to begin rushing the tempo as you build !
