Cory Pierce is a session and touring guitarist based out of Nashville , TN . Raised in a musical family in a small town in North Carolina , music has always been a main passion . After attending a music school in south Florida straight out of high school , the path of music becoming a career felt possible .
Nashville became home in 2015 and over the last 8 years Cory has had the privilege of working on countless albums and tours , spanning from country , pop , rock and contemporary Christian / worship . You may have seen him play live with Cody Carnes , Kari Jobe , Hope Darst and more recently Jesus Culture ’ s Bryan and Katie Torwalt .
When not on the road , his time is mostly spent working from a home studio tracking guitars and serving on The Belonging Co .’ s worship team .
[ Bruce Adolph ] You had a different path as a musician . You grew up playing drums and guitar at a young age serving your local church , home-schooled from the 9 th -12 th grades and then headed to a small music school . Tell us about the school in Florida that you attended ?
[ Cory ] It is called Ocean ’ s Edge and it ’ s down in Fort Lauderdale . It was a 10-month program and had probably 40 students max a year . They just keep it real tight and intimate . They ’ ve got a small team of teachers , but it was great . I learned so much just because it was so handson and so one-on-one .
[ WM ] That is unique . Many musicians have the dream to move to Nashville and make a living out of playing music there . There are even songs written about musician ’ s dreams being dashed on the mean streets of Nashville . You had the big dream too . How did that whole decision process go for you ? One day did you pack your car full of your guitars and amps and head out for Nashville ?
[ Cory ] I almost did that . Yes . Nashville was pretty high on my to-do list . It just kept getting pushed back for different things . I kind of wanted to move right after I finished the worship college in Florida . But I ended up moving to Tallahassee for a little bit and lived with a group of guys that I had met from school down there . The biggest reason I kept hanging around Florida is because I met my now wife at the school , and she was staggered a year behind me . So , when she was doing her classes , I had already graduated and I was like , “ Man , I really don ’ t wanna move four states away while we ’ re dating ”. And I didn ’ t want to go back home to my town in Carolina ,
