NAMM SHOW 2022 : BETTER THAN ANTICIPATED !
OK , I am an optimistic person . But sometimes the facts can look dim . When I heard that only 50 % of the exhibitors were coming to NAMM this year in Anaheim , CA I was concerned . When Fender , PRS , Roland and Gibson were not going to display … I began to wonder .
When I heard that the attendees were going to be far lower than normal , well honestly that part didn ’ t throw me as much . The lines for food and the bathrooms wouldn ’ t be as long and for the record – you really just need four types of people at NAMM to make it work .
Buyers : Retail stores placing orders on new products Sellers : Manufacturers selling those new products Media : Magazines and other media influencers reporting about the new products Artists : Some musicians who can really play well to demo the new gear and inspire the folks gathered around to hear it .
In the long run I thankfully threw out my fears and switched back into my motto , “ 1 / 2 of life is showing up to see what God has for you , but you have to show up !”
With some of the big fish not swimming in the pool , it gave an opportunity for me to spend more time with medium and smaller sized companies . As it turned out , even with such a large drop in attendance the actual percentage of the all-important ‘ Buyers ’ category only dropped slightly . That is a good thing !
So , desiring to build community even in a time of turmoil , we planned several events there . Our Pre-NAMM HANG had 20 sponsors and lots of musician guests showed up . Our Worship Musician Summit TEC Tracks hosted seven workshops with prominent panelists led by our Editorial Director Doug Doppler was well attended too . And lastly our Sunday morning Worship Musician ’ s Chapel service with Bob Bennett as musical guest and Eddie Espinosa
as our guest speaker was simply inspiring !
We were given success from the Lord on several levels . It really was an amazing time – even though my feet were sore after walking miles – it was a big win !
NAMM ’ s dates for the Anaheim show next year are April 13 th -15 th , 2023 . I believe more exhibitors will come back and I also think next year will be worth the effort for you to consider showing up too . NAMM does offer a way for worship leaders , musicians and tech teams to get involved .
Hope to see you there ! Bruce & Judy
