process , one of my co-writers and someone who I ’ ve looked up to for a long time , Steven Furtick , co-wrote the title track with me . Both he and Chris Brown . And I spent a couple days in Charlotte with them writing , and one of the things that Steven said to me was , “ You really need to feel the freedom to bring your whole self into this next season of your life .” And that meant a lot for me . It unlocked a lot in me because I ’ ve always felt a bit compartmentalized , that there wasn ’ t room for someone who likes to dance and preach , someone who likes pop music and leading worship , someone who loves to tour globally , but is also very committed to the local church . And I think there are actually a lot of people out there who have similar giftings as me who have wrestled with the compartmentalization as well .
So this project is really my strongest effort in being the most authentic me that I can be , and I had this realization right before I put out the Fake It video , which is the most choreographed , pop-veneered visual that I ’ ve ever produced .
30 dancers , a studio in Los Angeles , and just a very high quality , high dollar production . And I was worried about putting it out because number one , I wasn ’ t sure anyone would care . Dude , do Christians only care about songs with guys with guitars and ripped jeans and buttonup flannels , or is there a space for this ? And then my second fear was we ’ re going to put in all this work and people are just going to be extremely judgmental of it , and there won ’ t be a lot of positivity around it .
But the conclusion that I came to , and I think it ’ s where we all need to get as people , I decided I am not going to go to my grave with any potential left in me , that I ’ m going to use , even what I view as small things that God has wired me with to bring Him glory . And so , I don ’ t view myself as an accomplished dancer , but I can dance a little bit , so I ’ m going to bring all of that to God . I don ’ t consider myself the best communicator or preacher , but I ’ m going to bring my best to God in how I communicate , and I think we can all find ourselves in that .
[ WM ] I must ask you about a most interesting song to me . The song is “ Come Home ”. I say interesting in that I see it a protest song yet containing hope . Bob Dylan once purportedly told Lennon and McCartney , “ You guys are great , but you don ’ t say anything ”. I think that ’ s a problem in church music . There ’ s a lot of great worship songs , but not a lot of great new songs reflecting hymn-like theology and Biblical social commentary . You wrote this song with the great Emily Weisband and Tedd T . WOW ! We are subjected to division and dissolution daily , sometimes from politics and sometimes from our church leaders . You ’ ve addressed a huge problem in the church , and I applaud you for it .
[ Tauren ] Wow . Thank you . I think you should just write that in the article . My answer is irrelevant . I want to back up and zoom out a little bit . I had not heard that Bob Dylan quote before , and I think it is so good , and it is a timeless critique of artistry . And I know that he was particularly vocal about his views ,
