For handheld use, the typical mating of a separate brand of mic handle to a DPA capsule is now history. With a svelte cylinder and nothing loose to fall onto the floor, the N-HH1, which I used with the DPA 2028 Vocal Microphone, is simplicity at its finest. Add in a thorough range of active and passive directional and omni antennas, the ADS0208 cascading splitter, and nifty colorful ID rings for the mic handles, and it is obvious that DPA engineers have used wireless in the field.
Speaking of the field, taking the N-Series to a VBS event proved the mettle of the engineering behind this line. As with most kids’ environments, the mics were subjected to handling by elementary school students with no prior knowledge of how to handle audio equipment. Fortunately, they were receptive to instruction and, coupled with the extreme ruggedness of the transmitters, the session went off beautifully with no damage to any component. As for sound quality, it’ s DPA, so superlatives fail to convey the pristine quality. It must be heard. On the RF front, set-up was simple with no hassles on either the cabling or programming sides of things. The N-series simply worked perfectly.
